If you like DDR and 50 style, this place is it. It even smells old haha. The cinema is still in full action. Bartenders were rude, too crowded, music was not what was mentioned in commercial. Garderobe was okay, they put your clothes on hangers. Security was good, nice guys. This must be one of luxury place in the DDR.
So nostalgic and very nice ambiance. The quality of the cinema also very good compare to many other cinemas in the city of Berlin. So well recommended to film , architecture and history lovers. Much better than a big chain movie theater. We were booked to see a film but unfortunately missed out as our flight was delayed. We were allowed to look around the building. There was a wooden dated decor inside and an observation floor looking out over the city,.
There's no popcorn, no gallons of fizzy drinks, no huge queues and no astronomical prices. It's not difficult to imagine people under a socialist regime coming to view the Kino International apparently used to be the no. You can also have a leisurely drink beforehand at This cinema is great. It feels like diving in some sort of GDR luxury nostalgia, the interior is amazing! This great movie theatre is supposed to be renovated in the 90ies, but the breath from the East German culture elite still lingers.
The enormous crystal lamps in the luguber lobby bar are shaded by tar from all cigarettes. The chairs are still smelling. We popped over here after a suggestion from a photographer we met who told us to go and look at the architecture. We came and sat here for an hour or so and enjoyed the beautiful building and a few beers. We were the only Flights Vacation Rentals Restaurants Things to do.
